Wake Up!

I awoke this morning to Brooklyn breathing in my face. I cracked one eye open and lo and behold, there she was, a half inch from my face! Nothing like waking up to a giant pair of eyeballs to scare the crap outta you.

Brooklyn said, "Mama, do you have your ears peered?"

In my, "I haven't had coffee yet!" state, I had no clue what she was saying.

"Huh?" I croaked.

"Do you have your ears peered?"

"What are you talking about?" I asked, trying to shake the cobwebs from my head.

She sighed, exasperated at my obvious stupidity and spelled it out for me. "E G S T K!"

I was suddenly awake, cracking up at her spelling. "Ohhhh", I said. "Are my ears pierced?"

"Yes!" she squealed, happy that I finally understood her.

"You're silly, Brooklyn."

"No, you silly, Mama!"

That's better than an alarm clock any day. :)

Reminded me of my son's way of waking me up (17 years ago). He'd come in at the crack of dawn and pry my eyes open with his little stubby fingers and then say "Sun's Up!". I am not a morning person at all but this always cracked me up.

There's nothing better. Even beats coffee!

Love Love that story.
When my middle son was little he would come in my room as soon as the sun was up and say "Mommy the sun's awake". I'm so not a morning person but how could I refuse a cute little face and voice when it's said like that?

So cute! My 19 month old son sleeps with us (that wasn't the plan, but its the only way he'll sleep through the night). He woke me up at 4am the other day with a big slobbery kiss, said "hi Mommy - night night" then he laid back down and went back to sleep. No idea what that was about, but its the only time I actually smiled about being woken up at 4am!

oh what a lovely story! The wild ones are the cutest aren't they? Our 21 month old also sleeps in our bed - well at least from whenever she wakes at night which sometimes is only from 5 or 6am, and she does the cutest things too - like kiss us awake. Sometimes she'll even share her dreams, like saying "ahdis" (for Upsy Daisy from In the Nightgarden - do you know this programme in the US? Probably not, it's very charming and lovely). To be honest, there's nothing nicer than waking up with her (and sharing the one hour of her being not hyper) and though we never planned to co-sleep, admittedly we're enjoying it a lot.

Peered ears are the best! Reminds me of a limerick I learned in grade school:
"There was a young man who said "why? can't I look in my ear with my eye?
I'm sure I could do it if I set my mind to it.
You never can tell till you try!'"
Now why is it I can remember that but I can't remember where I laid my glasses? Oh, I turned 60 today, that's why! :)

So cute - especially the spelling. My now 5 year old sun went through a phase where he thought he was a dog. (3 year old daughter is there now.) He crawled into bed with me one morning and woke me up when he licked my face. Ick.

When we were stationed in NC, and living in base housing, our boys got the room that faced east. I'm not a morning person regardless of how much sleep I get or what time it is. My oldest (then 3, now 15) came in one morning as the sun rose, and cheerily said at a loud volume "Hi Mama!"
"ugh, it's early, why are you awake?"
"cuz the sun's up!"
Of course. DUH. I learned he took everything I say literally at that moment. After having difficulty settling him down at night, I'd been telling him to stay in bed till the morning. He didn't comprehend "morning", so I tried to put it in 3 year old terms. It worked. He stayed in bed till the sun came up in the sky. Looking at his sleep habits now, I it wouldn't suprise me if he staked out the window to watch for the sunrise.

Well, she was staring at your ears, so I guess that makes them peered.

One of my favorite parts of the day is when my 4-yr-old wakes up because he always comes and snuggles with me first thing.

My just-turned-four-years-old-today son loves to come into our room at 7:00 a.m. and say "the sun is on, get up" and then "can I watch TB?" (yes, a B). He knows you can only wake up adults with kisses.

Have a blessed day!

I had pierced ears ntil I was pregnant for 2 years. The first tug by our first child--Well that was the end of that. Haven't worn earrings since and that was 16 years ago. I guess I am now too old to care. Have a great day.
