Vacation Bible School -part one

It's that time again. Time to start going to bed before 3:00 AM. Time to wake up before 9:30 AM. Time to get up and get going in the morning. Time to be totally worn out by noon. Time to get crazy songs stuck in my head for weeks.

In other words, Vacation Bible School time.

When we got home from the church today, I went in the kitchen to make some lunch. From the family room, I hear Clayton say, "Look what I got at church!" I peek around the corner and see Clay holding up an ant trap. Usually they bring home t-shirts and other craft projects. I guess this year, it's ant traps.

"Clayton! That's poison! Put that down now! Where did you get that?! Clay, you can't just go picking stuff up and bringing it home! Ugh!!! Did you put that by your mouth? Let's go wash your hands! That can make you very, very sick, Clayton." Leave it to my kids. Hopefully tomorrow he'll come home with something less toxic and I'll have some pictures to share.

I took a ton of pictures, but I gave my memory card to the person putting together the slide show. (Oh yes - that's right, I forgot to say that I got a backup camera. I just couldn't live without one for weeks.) I'm sure the pictures all look like last year's pics anyway. For example -

Clearly, he's learning that God's love "sticks" to you.
Or maybe that God's love can "transform" you.
Or perhaps it's that God's love is like sticky, blue tape.

What can I say? He's a weird kid.

I always stay and help out with VBS, but I always, always request to be put in the kitchen so I can get away from my kids serve nutritious snacks to the children.

EBay took down my auction because I wrote that I was going to donate the money to the Make A Wish Foundation. I guess you can't write stuff like that on your auctions unless you go through eBays Giving Works. Unfortunately, Make A Wish isn't one of the charities on their list and that's where Savannah wanted to donate the money. Sooo, I relisted the auction, but didn't write that I would be donating the money to Make A Wish. Just so you know, that's still the plan, however. The money from Savannah's auction will indeed be donated to the Make A Wish Foundation.
Here is a new link for it. Thanks!

And remember to leave a comment on my other blog HERE for your chance to win a new Jawbone bluetooth wireless headset.

Yup, that ebay charity deal is a toughie... I mean C'MON! They don't even have Make a Wish on their list?!?

If you're desperate, you can get a signed letter from a MAW rep (ON MAW official letterhead of course), scan it, send it to ebay and include the scan in your auction, but uh, we trust ya! :)

speaking of vacation and of bible camp....have you read "The Shack" by William Young? It is so good and I bet you would absolutely love it! This is my first time writing to you but I've been reading your blog since last year when someone sent me an email with your ebay post. I've been addicted ever since. You are awesome Dawn!

That's too funny--I did my first stint at VBS this year and also requested the kitchen. Not because I love being in the kitchen, but because the noise from my own two is almost more than I can bear sometimes, so I knew that multiplying that by 50 would be insanity inducing for sure!

Okay, so this has nothing to do with your post. However I will be visiting Chicago coming up this weekend and all of next week. We are going to see Jerzey Boys, going to the Improv, going to the Zoo and the Aquarium. Also going to the White Sox game and the Cardinals/Cubs game. So with that said, do you recommend any restaurants. It will be a whole group of us, My Mom and Dad, My grandma, my Hubby and Me and my 20 month old. Oh by the way my mom is graduating College at 47 and she is second in her class, GO MOM! Okay let me know if you have an recs.

Hi, Love your blog.
Wanted to share this, a great comeback for the "are they all yours"

A man boarded a plane with 6 kids. After they got settled in their seats a woman sitting across the aisle from him leaned over to him and asked, 'Are all of those kids yours?'

He replied, 'No. I work for a condom company. These are customer complaints.'

I worked in the kitchen during VBS this year and I loved it. I have 4 kids so I was thrilled when I actually could be around the adults instead! lol I already told everyone to just put me on kitchen duty next year too!!!

Hi Dawn,
I see what your son did with the blue tape - he gave himself a unibrow, a moustache and a goatee.

Also saw what detail you go into when you list on ebay.

My kids are grown, and I enjoy reading about yours and the fun they have together. I believe in having a bunch of kids and staying home with them.

I also believe you can have a great credit rating or great kids; you can't have them both. I opted for the great kids.

Keep on writing!

Hello Dawn,
A few somewhat random questions:

Maybe you answered this already...does Savannah's "friend" or friend's mom know about the e-bay auction?

Has anyone told you that with your new haircut you resemble Dora the Explorer? (In the cutest way, of course!)You could make some serious cash touring as her...grab your backpack...let's go...off to BlogHer...Vamanos!

How long did it take you to get your free caulk? I signed up for it on your other blog eons ago, and have given up camping out at my mailbox for it. Will it ever come?

I couldn't resist commenting on Meg's comment about a comeback to the question, "Are they all yours?" It is the best answer that I have heard/read on this blog since Dawn began the question many months ago. Thanks Meg.

Good for you for volunteering for VBS! Ours was last week and I was the teacher for the 3 yr olds (4th year doing it). Our biggest day I had 14 of the little buggers, I mean angels! Even though it was hard work the kids had a great time. Love your blog! Keep up the good work and may God bless you in everything you do!!
